COLLEGE BOARD

In an effort to increase the number of schools whose AP Participation fully reflects the diversity of their overall student population, the College Board has developed a two-part plan as part of the Lead Higher initiative.  Data from the 2015 AP Exam administration will be used to target services for schools in two categories:

1.      Category 1 – Schools approaching equity in AP Participation.  The numbers of students from all demographic backgrounds taking AP Courses at these schools are near equivalent to the numbers of students from all demographic backgrounds enrolled.

2.      Category 2 – Schools not yet approaching equity in AP Participation.  The numbers of students from all demographic backgrounds taking AP Courses at these schools are far fewer than the numbers of students from all demographic backgrounds enrolled.

In addition to all existing AP tools and services, schools close to meeting equity will receive targeted outreach from College Board including but not limited to rosters of their underrepresented students with AP potential. Identified schools with larger gaps will receive a list of resources that address specific local barriers to access for students with AP potential and outreach will be conducted to superintendents. Districts will receive copies of CB’s Leadership Playbook which includes strategies for AP equity. All schools will be encouraged to utilize Share AP, a one-stop website on all things AP. We will also work with EOS to determine how AP potential information can be included in EOS’ Student Insight Cards.
